A New Year…

Last year I started using a Simplified Planner by Emily Ley as well as a Goal Planner from Cultivate What Matters, and as I was getting everything set up for 2020 and reviewing what worked well and what needs to change and goals for the year I decided to expand that to our family and get their inputs for our family goals. So after taking down all the Christmas ornaments and decorations and cleaning up pine needles everywhere we sat down for a family meeting Monday morning. I asked everyone what went well, what didn’t go well, ideas for new things to try, and things they wanted to do this year. The kids all had really good input….well at least the older 3 did, the two littles mostly played with their Teddy Bears, but it was really good to hear what they thought and get their ideas. Everything from ways to make breakfast better, to how much they enjoyed weekly family nights. I love that they all want to go camping/hiking and spend more time together outside and in the mountains and that Korea Camp is a must again this year. So we have some things to work on and some issues to make smoother but we are all in it together. Another thing that we decided to start was secret ninjas.Being kind to one another has not been the smoothest lately and so we are going to focus on that. Each person in the family drew a name and that is the person that they have to do special things for for the next month. It doesn’t mean they can be mean to the rest of the family or that they do everything for that person, but that they just work to make that one person feel special and if everyone is doing that they everyone will feel special. It ideally is suppose to be a secrete or surprise who has who but that of course is not how it went down. And we will try and continue it for the next few months if it seems to be working. So far just a couple of days in I have seen more helpful attitudes with each other’s chores and lots of hand drawn pictures on each other’s beds. So we’ve officially started 2020! Happy New Year!
