A couple of weeks ago we got to go on a trip with just Leighton to St Louis to watch the men’s gymnastics olympic trials. We had been planning the trip for over 18 months and it got delayed with all things COVID last year so we were very excited to get to go this year. We made the long drive from Colorado to St Louis on Wednesday and at about the 1/2 way point we had been told by some friends that there was a Russel Stover’s chocolate store so we stopped and checked it out. They had “blooper” chocolates that were the wrong shape or something that they had at steep discounts so we bought some for our trip and then continued our drive. Our Airbnb in St Louis was right across the street from Forrest Park which is bigger than Central Park in New York. After we got settled and had a quick dinner we went for a walk through part of the park and got to see lightening bugs which was super fun and Leighton loved that. Thursday morning we woke up and went for an early morning jog through the park and saw the World’s Fair Pavilion and all sorts of other areas. It was a gorgeous run and fun time together. After breakfast we walked the 3 minutes back to Forrest Park to the St Louis Zoo which is located in the park and spent all morning exploring and enjoying our time in the zoo. It was just a sweet time with Leighton. His favorite two things were the underwater tunnel in the sea lion/seal area where they would swim over us and also the penguin house. We went to the penguin house twice. We had a blast. After the zoo we headed down town for the first night of the Olympic Trials which is in a post coming up…
