As all things this year COVID has made things a little different. Typically Leighton has a number of meets starting in late December/early January and wrapping up in early to mid March with State and then Regionals after that. This year however that wasn’t able to happen. So Leighton had his first meet on Saturday. The meet was in Colorado Springs, so Clint drove him there and then because of COVID no one was allowed to stay and watch the meet so Clint drove to a Panara Bread to watch the meet on zoom. The rest of us stayed home and we watched it over zoom as well. Leighton’s parakeet even watched the meet with us and tweeted through all of it. The kids all wore masks as did the coaches and judges. They had a camera set up at each event and it actually went pretty well. Leighton was nervous but he did really well. Floor is still a struggle but even that he improved on from last year. He was pleased with how he did and he knows what he needs to work on for the next meet which will actually be State in mid March. It’s been a tough year for activities and I really appreciate the way his gym and coach have worked through all the safety things in order to allow them to keep learning and growing in skills and now competing.
