July 4th 2020

I was working nights all July 4th weekend, but we still managed to have a good time. Friday night we were supposse to go to one of our neighbors for our annual neighborhood party but a few of us caught a stomach bug so we laid low and watched Peter Pan instead. Saturday morning it was time for the annual neighborhood 4th of July Parade. The kids ask about it all year long, which I always find silly because all the kids in the neighborhood ride their bikes as fast as they can in the 2 mile loop around our neighborhood so it lasts all of about 5 minutes. Clint said this year was no different, but they all played a game of softball at the starting/ending house which was fun. That evening we had my parents over for hamburgers and hot dogs and s’mores of course. It was fun to see how excited the kids were about the fireworks. Caedmon was so excited that he almost got upset because he didn’t know what to do with the waiting and all his feelings. Finally it was time for the daytime smoke bombs and glow worms which they all loved and then sparklers and it eventually got dark enough for the fountains that we had gotten. From where our house is we could see a number of other displays which was a ton of fun. As I drove to work that night though I was blown away by the beauty of the moon putting on its own display, sometimes we forget the beauty of creation all around us every day. It was a good reminder.
