Riconada Canyon Hike Petroglyph National Monument

So before the state closed we snuck out of town. Initially it was to go to Leighton’s regional gymnastics meet in Albuquerque but that got cancelled but we had planned an entire week long trip around that and then had plans to visit 7-8 National Parks. We debated cancelling the trip but at the insistence of my medical director just for my own mental health and family time we decided to go. We knew ultimately that we weren’t going to get to go to any of the National Parks but we found some off the beaten path hikes anyway. We packed all our food and stayed at private Airbnb’s where we saw no one.

Our first day we headed just to the edge of Albuquerque not far from the Airbnb that we were staying at and visited Petroglyph National Monument Riconada Canyon. It was a little over a 2 mile hike and we pretty much had the trail to ourselves. There were all sorts of Petroglyphs along the trail. The kids enjoyed seeing them but I think they mostly just enjoyed running up the trail and just getting all their pent up energy out. The day was cool but beautiful and it was a great hike.
