Backpacking 2023 Day 1

As has become kind of a tradition we took off backpacking the week before starting school. We did a different trail this year though and stayed in a new camp site. It was fun to explore a new area. Clint and I had hiked the area back in November when we got away for a weekend but it was definately different in the summer and not covered in snow and ice. Our site was a little over 4 miles in and everyone did great, there was smiles the whole way even on the really big tough steep hill. And it was gorgeous. We got to our site and set up camp with everyone pitching in. For the first time Clint and I slept in hammocks and the kids split between 2 tents. We then explored the river near by, which was actually the east inlet of the Colorado River. The kids threw rocks in and we just enjoyed the stillness. We cooked up some dinner and before long crowded into one of the tents for some Hobbit reading and then sleep.
