Bolder Boulder 2023

Monday morning on Memorial Day we were up early and ready for the Bolder Boulder. Leighton and I started in a qualified wave F, and Clint and Caedmon and Edric weren’t too far behind us in FH. My parents and the littles started a ways back in MF but were ready to go. I have said to myself each year that one of these years Leighton would go faster and leave me in the dust, last year he took off the last 1/2 mile or so, this year it happened at mile 1. I knew just after we started that I wasn’t going to be able to hang at his speed and so just past mile 1, I told him to go and he knew where to meet us at the end. He had his sites set on finishing under an hour and so as we turned onto the straightaway and slight hill before mile 2 it was the last time I saw him. I had set up my phone to track everyone so I knew as I crossed mile 5 Leighton had in fact beat his goal and finished before an hour. I did a little internal dance there and cheered for him as I made my way to the finish about 10 minutes after him. Caedmon and Edric had a little less focus on their run and had some fun along the way with some cotton candy and of course a trip down the slip-n-slide. They finished in 1 hour 17 minutes. I checked in with my parents via text and they were making their way slowly, their first mile went decently fast, about 16 minutes but then they got to all the food stations and so they slowed way down. Cotton candy, bacon, gummy bears, chips, candy, granola bars, they got a bit of it all and then some. At one point they were concerned that “because Leighton would go so fast” he wouldn’t get any cotton candy so they both picked up some cotton candy for him and started running with it. My mom said it was super cute, but the cotton candy only made it a couple of blocks before they gave up and decided to eat it themselves….it’s the thought that counts right? After Clint and the boys got across the finish and we watched and cheered on some other friends across the finish I headed back out to meet my parents and Paxton and Coppelia. I met them a bit before the 5 mile mark and both were insistent on running so we headed to the finish together with a few little walk breaks along the way. After we all made it across the finish line and enjoyed many of the goodies in the snack pack, Clint took the kids and explored the expo which they all loved. Then we settled in to cheer on the professional race and celebrate the Memorial Day Tribute. The flag being flown into the stadium was of course the favorite of everyone. We took it easy when we all got home and finished the day with a BBQ with my parents and a fire in the outside fire place.
