An Atypical Thanksgiving 2018

Our thanksgiving was anything but “typical” this past week. My parents were out of town and my brother and his new wife had other commitments so when we started looking and planning we all sat down and talked about what we really wanted to do. No one wanted turkey and we decided we’d rather spend the day as a family doing something we all enjoy….so we went hiking.

We went hiking just about 15 minutes from our home, but there were a number of cool rock formations and while there were some people out getting their hike in before their feast it wasn’t very crowded. The day was cool but not bad for a late November day in Colorado. We packed PB&J and crackers and apples for lunch and our table wasn’t exactly festive….but we had a great time. All in all I think we hiked a little over 4 miles and no one cried or complained, it was smiles and giggles the entire trip.

After some quiet play time/nap time when we got home we made home made pizza and ate that with some hot apple cider. Clint did set the table with our Thanksgiving candles. After I lit them both Paxton and Coppélia started singing “Happy Birthday” because in their mind that’s the only time one lites candles. We all snuggled in to our pjs and on the couch and watched “Charlie Brown’s Thanksgiving” after our pizza and cider and ended the day really well. And I don’t think anyone missed turkey or pie. We have so much to be thankful for and while it was not the traditional Thanksgiving it was a Thanksgiving that fit our little family and all the things we are thankful for.
