As usual I am way behind in my blogging. This is from our second day backpacking. We woke up chilly, I think the temp was in the low 40s, but as the sun came up we slowly warmed up. After a good breakfast we packed lunch and waters and snacks and headed out on the trail farther up. The trail was beautiful and very lush. Paxton found a couple little streams to jump over and there were all sorts of waterfalls. We came to Lone Pine Lake and everyone threw rocks in and we ate our snacks. Then we continued up the trail another 1-2 miles to Lake Verna and it was beautiful and we were the only ones there. Caedmon and Edric promptly threw in the biggest log they could find (calling it the Titanic). We ate lunch and just enjoyed the quiet and beauty for quite awhile. After hiking back down to our site we spent the remainder of the afternoon playing in the headwaters of the Colorado River. Coppelia insisted on fishing with her stick and was quite upset that no fish were biting on the attached grass, she then got the idea to chase grasshoppers around trying to catch them to attach to her line. Edric decided to just use some dried coconut from our trail mix and put it on a hook that Clint had fashioned and whittled out of wood. Neither had any luck….and we tried to tell Edric that we weren’t so sure that the fish in the Colorado River were coconut eating fish…..maybe that was a little too tropical for them. We had a great evening and slept decently well. The next morning we packed up camp and headed down the mountain. We had a great time and everyone is already planning our next trip next summer.
