Mount Saint Helens…

On our last day in Washington we headed to Mount Saint Helen’s. It was the one thing that Leighton had said he wanted to do when we learned he was going to have a meet in Washington. Unfortunately the weather was less than cooperative, but we made the most of it. We spent a good amount of time at the visitor’s center and learned a lot and then took a little hiking trail around the area. As you can see from the photos there was too much fog and low clouds to see the mountain. We drove up closer and were able to get to the bridge to see where the end of the blast zone was and we could look down and see as we drove where the mud and everything had flowed down, but couldn’t see much else. We tried driving a little farther but there was a lot of snow and ice on the road and we knew the road was closed just a bit farther up so we turned around. We spent the afternoon before heading to the airport at a bookstore which is one of Leighton’s favorite things and found some books for him. It was a really good weekend away, we saw a lot and explored a lot as well. And it was nice to have just some one on one time.
