Sunday was a busy day in our family. To start the day off it was Clint’s birthday and so we started the day singing Happy Birthday and opening presents for him. And then we went in various different directions. I was the doctor all weekend for the gymanstics meet so I headed that way for the final girls session and to get set up for the boys’ meet later in the day, most of the kids headed to my parents for the morning and Clint and Caedmon headed to Denver for Caedmon to audition at Colorado Ballet for their summer ballet program. Caedmon said the auditions went well and were “easy”. That boy has never lacked confidence in his life. About mid day my dad brought Leighton and Paxton to me at the meet just as we were finishing out changing the equipment out for the boys meet. Clint and Caedmon met us there shortly there after and after hugs and hearing about each other’s mornings, my dad took Caedmon back to my parent’s house and the boys got ready for their meets. Paxton’s meet was first and he was so excited for his first meet. He did great and was even more excited after the meet when he got the medals he earned. He was so proud of his medals, I’m pretty sure he took at least one of them to bed with him that night. Leighton’s meet was next and he was both excited but pretty nervous as well. He moved up to level 7 this year and gets to make his own routines and has a number of new skills. He did really well, the highlight for him and I think the first time he finally took a deep breath was on his floor routine when he landed his roundoff back tuck (flip). He was wearing a mask but I could see the smile behind it anyway. In the end he took 2nd on pommel, and 3rd on floor, rings and high bar and finished 4th overall in his age group/division which he was really pleased with. It was a long day for everyone but a great day as well. I told Clint I was sorry it wasn’t much of a birthday celebration and he said he was glad he got to celebrate by watching his kids do the thing they love.
