Leighton had a gymnastics meet at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs this past weekend. It was scheduled for early Saturday morning so we went down Friday afternoon/evening and stayed at an ARBNB townhome. We got there and got settled and played some games and had a relaxing evening. Apples to Apples is a great game and everyone had fun playing. We were up early Saturday morning for the meet and Leighton had quite the cheering crowd for his meet. He didn’t do as well as he wanted to but he is getting better on each even with every meet and his scores went up even if he didn’t place. We had some long talks after the meet because he was pretty upset, but I think its been a good learning experience for him with that. At the end of his competition while the scores were all being tallied and figured some of the guys from the national team came out and warmed up and practiced. Eddie Penev who was one of the guys at the clinic that Leighton went to in November did his Pommel Horse routine in front of all the boys to practice it for the Winter Cup Competition that he has this week. Sam Mikulak, Robert Neff, Adrian De Los Angeles, Kanji Oyama and Donnell Whittenburg were all there practicing which the boys really liked seeing and watching. After we grabbed a quick lunch that we had packed we took a tour of the Olympic Training Center. Our tour guide was Ryan Boyle who is a ParaOlympic Cyclist and won the world championships and won a silver in the Time Trial in the 2016 Olympics and is training to make the 2020 US ParaOlympic team. He took us on a tour and we saw the pool, the resident dorms and cafeteria, the weight gym, the wrestling gym, and the indoor shooting range as well. It was a really good tour. We finished the day off with ice cream which made everyone happy.
