The day after we took the kids on a hike at Bobcat Ridge Clint and I decided to go for a trail run. Well I ran and Clint rode his bike. We couldn’t have asked for a better day and the kids were super excited for an excuse to spend the morning at my parents. I have my trail marathon this next weekend so it was good to get another long trail training run in before the race.
There are a number of trails throughout the Bobcat Ridge area and we found a good loop that was going to be close to 12 miles to do. I don’t think we realized or had any idea of the elevation gain with the loop, but we soon learned. Twice I looked ahead on the trail and there were herds of deer looking back at me. The view from the top was amazing, but it took a lot of work to get up there.

During the tough uphill part I began to doubt myself a bit and wondered how I am ever going to make it through my run this next week, but then I started to remember it is just one step at a time and constant forward motion and even if I have to walk or slow down I will slowly get to my goal. So one step at a time I made it. My race won’t be easy but it will be done. I remembered a quote that I have hanging in my closet “Tough runs don’t last, tough runners do”.
