The countdown is on, we are going to start year #4 next week. This will be the first year that we are teaching 2 kids, Caedmon for Kindergarten and Leighton for 3rd grade. I’m actually looking forward to getting into a routine and getting some learning going. We’ve got the classroom set up in our new house and everything is actually organized. I know it won’t last long, but at least for a few days everything has a place and is actually in that place.
This year Leighton will be doing Sonlight/Bookshark D with the advanced readers (that boy can go through a book in no time) and 4th grade Singapore Math. Together he and Caedmon are going to tackle Marine biology for science through Apologia and as a family we are going to learn sign language. Both he and Caedmon will do the school district’s homeschool enrichment program on Wednesdays as part of APEX which will be really good for both.
Caedmon is more of a mixed bag. He’ll be starting with kindergarten Singapore Math but I suspect before the year is up he’ll be moving on to 1st grade math. He’s going to do Sonlight 1st grade language arts (he did the kindergarten version this past year on his non preschool days) and then the pre-K world cultures curriculum from Sonlight. I’m holding off on the kindergarten world history, as we’ll teach Caedmon and Edric that together next year.
Edric will be going to preschool at a local church 3 mornings a week and Paxton and Coppelia will be working hard to disrupt everything. Kidding, I think they will actually do real well. Clint and I work together well and will kept the kids not in school playing or busy. People ask us how we homeschool with other kids at home or make statements “wouldn’t it be easier to just send them all to school?”. And it might be, but for now we’ve decided to take it a year at a time and we know that at any point we can change our mind. Yes our house may be a bit crazy but we can’t trade the time that we get to spend as a family.
