Three years ago you made your entrance into this world on the other side of the ocean. Knowing what I’ve learned about you in these past 7 months I’m sure it was nothing short of fast and furious and full steam ahead, just like about the way you do everything. Unless it is first thing in the morning…and then you are Grumpy Gus. Big Time.
Sweet Boy, I was not there to hold you close and rock and comfort you. I missed out on a number of your “firsts”, and while a part of me will always mourn that, I will always be thankful and greatly indebted to the two women that went before me. Your birth mom carried and nourished you for 9 months, and your sweet Foster Mom, cared for you and taught you how to love and prepared you for us. Their love and care will always be a part of your story, a part of our story.
And what an amazing little boy your are! There is no obstacle that you aren’t willing to attempt, and you believe you can carry/do/climb whatever is before you. You have very set opinions and if you had your way, you’d love to wear button up shirts and a tie every day, as that is what you point to every morning as I get you dressed. You love the outdoors, and the sandbox has quickly become one of your favorite places.
Trucks and trains are your go to, as long as you have your trusty blanket by your side. I’ve already stitched that blanket up twice….and I’m not sure I’m going to be able to find a replacement when it completely falls apart, especially watching you stand at the washing machine door as it is being washed and looking at me and asking “done?”
And boy are you smart. Your little mind is working all the time. And there is a streak of stubboness that runs deep in you. That will serve you well, little one, maybe though it would be ok to tone it down just a little as you work your way through being 3.
We celebrated on Saturday with a big car for you to drive, an animal mat to learn your ABCs, all sorts of good books to read, a big truck and of course play-doh. The day was topped with Korean BBQ and cupcakes, and it doesn’t get much better than that. And so while we may have missed out on the first 29 months, I am beyond thankful I get to walk and learn and love and grow with you each step of the many many years to come. Happy 3rd Birthday Edric JoonSoo!
